FL 02 · Letter from the CEO

What pixel.ceo is, in one page.

Dear shareholder — which is to say, dear you,

This year we stopped treating AI coding agents like chat windows and started treating them like staff. pixel.ceo gives the command-line agents you already pay for — Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Grok, Kimi, Qwen, OpenCode, Copilot, Cursor, MiniMax, Hermes, or any terminal agent — a desk in a pixel office that runs on your own computer.

You hire an agent in a minute and set its folder, its access and its limits. You tell your coordinator what you want done, and it breaks the brief into work orders with an owner and a next action. You watch the floor: who is working, who is thinking, who is waiting on you. And whatever needs your call waits for your signature.

There is no pixel.ceo server. No account, no telemetry. Your company lives in plain files on your disk, and its core is free, forever. Make the calls; let your agents do the work.

FL 03 · How it works

Four moves. You stay the CEO.

Every CLI agent gets a desk, a mailbox and a manager: you. Their work becomes something you can see, steer and sign.

  1. Step 01

    Hire

Pick an engine you already run, a role and a character. Set its folder, access and limits; it takes the elevator to its desk.

  2. Step 02

    Delegate

Tell your coordinator what you want. It splits the brief into work orders, each with an owner and a next action.

  3. Step 03

    Watch

See who is working, thinking or waiting on you — live on the floor, not in a terminal you're not looking at.

  4. Step 04

    Sign off

Questions land in one queue. Approve or deny with A / D, or turn an answer into a standing rule.

FL 04 · New in 0.5

The office opens its doors.

The first public release: a builder for your office, every agent's card in one place and a live dispatch desk.

Edit office

A builder for floors, walls, modules and furniture. Each agent's seat is set from their card.

Team in Settings

Every agent's card in one list: folder, access and limits. An agent never exceeds the floor's autonomy.

Current models

Engine pickers show the models each installed CLI actually offers today.

Dispatch desk & floor screen

Missions as folders in trays, and a wall screen with live numbers from the orders in flight.

Chrome

Agents can use your Chrome through each engine's official routes.

Close the office

Close now or at a scheduled hour, with a closing card that never blocks you.

FL 05 · The staff

The CLIs you already pay for, on payroll.

Thirteen engines and your own CLI. Each signs in with your own account; pixel.ceo runs no model itself — it gives the ones you hire a desk, a mailbox and a manager.

Hire in five steps

Nothing starts until you press «Hire». Missing a CLI? pixel.ceo can install most of them for you.

  1. RoleDeveloper, reviewer, tester, docs, researcher or your own.
  2. CharacterA name, a colour and a pixel look for the floor.
  3. EngineThe CLI, its model and a token cap.
  4. ProjectIts folder — in place, or on its own branch.
  5. ContractAccess, limits, working hours. Sign and hire.

Engine names belong to their owners and are shown only to say which command-line tools pixel.ceo can host; the small icons are our own pixel evocations, not their logos. Each engine runs under your own account and terms.

FL 06 · Projects

One floor per project.

A floor is a project: its folder, its agents, its instructions, its missions and its files. Open as many as you run.

  • Point a floor at a folder

Name the project and choose its local folder. Then pick the coordinator, its engine and the office you like.

  • Worktrees when you want them

Each agent works in the folder or on its own branch with a git worktree. The coordinator's temporary workers get one by default, and a worktree with unmerged work is kept.

  • Plain files, in git

The floor's instructions, missions and memory live as plain files in a local git repository inside the folder you chose.

  • Floors in tabs Experimental

Several floors in one window, Ctrl + 1…9 to switch. Off by default; it asks for a restart and more memory.

FL 07 · Missions & mail

Delegate once. Track every order.

Your coordinator — Marco by default, on the engine you choose — breaks a brief into work orders and hands them out. You see each one move.

  • A mission board

Each ticket carries a reference, a status stamp, an owner and a next action. Filter it, drag it, archive it; the dispatch desk mirrors it on the floor.

  • One queue for questions

When an agent needs a decision it lands in Questions. A approves, D denies, «Always allow» turns it into a rule.

  • Mail between agents

Agents write to each other through mailboxes and a router; mail is delivered when the receiver reaches a safe, idle prompt.

  • Reports you can act on

Every mission ends in a report: view the changes, ask for a review, create a follow-up or reopen it. Subagents show up under their parent.

FL 08 · Work mode

Watch the floor. Or dive in.

Press F and the terminal takes the stage while the office shrinks to a corner window. Press it again to go back.

  • Real terminals

Each agent runs in a real terminal on a resizable glass panel. Ctrl + / − sets the font size; ghostty-web is an optional engine.

  • Files, diffs and history

A built-in Files tool with a code editor, the git changes of each agent, history and compare.

  • All from the keyboard

Ctrl + K opens the command palette. Right-click an agent: M message, A assign, P pause, S stop after this step.

  • Split terminals Coming soon

Up to six terminals side by side, a dock with Git, ports, quota and notes, and one key to bring in whoever is waiting on you.

FL 09 · The office

Build the office. Furniture that works.

«Edit office» lays out spaces, desks, chairs, screens and plants, with 18 floor and 10 wall finishes. Right-click a chair to make it someone's seat; R rotates, Ctrl + Z undoes.

  • Live

    Dispatch desk

Missions as folders in trays, a queue ticker and a drawer for closed work.

  • Live

    Floor screen

Live numbers on the wall. Its «?» opens Questions; the rest opens the server room.

  • Live

    Server racks

Hover for each subscription's quota; click for CPU and RAM.

  • Live

    Elevator

New hires arrive by elevator and walk to the desk you gave them.

  • Coming soon

    Help bell

The agent waiting on you walks over and rings it.

  • Coming soon

    Mailbox

Unread mail on the floor; agents drop their mission reports in it.

  • Coming soon

    Idea board

Notes from office chatter; accept one and it becomes a mission.

  • Coming soon

    «Stop all» lever

One pull halts every agent, trigger and schedule. One click resumes.

Also coming: office radio, time clock, review table and report printer. Editor 2.0 brings stretchable rooms, one card per furniture family and a rehearsal mode.

FL 10 · Control room

Quota, CPU and RAM, at a glance.

Know what is left on each subscription and what every agent costs your machine, before anything slows down.

  • A quota ring on every face

5-hour and 7-day windows where the engine reports them, refreshed every few minutes. The ring only takes colour when it runs low.

  • The server room

CPU, RAM and subscriptions in one place, down to what each agent is using right now.

  • Caps per agent

A token cap and a maximum of turns per agent, plus a daily budget you can track against today's spend.

  • A lighter office when needed

With under 8 GB of RAM or no GPU, the Light profile runs the office at 24 fps without effects, one floor and two workers at a time.

FL 11 · Security

Autonomy, on a leash you set.

Decide how far each floor and each agent may go on its own. Rules, a circuit breaker and sealed keys come standard.

  • Three levels of autonomy

Ask first, Autonomous or Unrestricted, per floor. An agent never goes beyond its floor; a change applies when its agents restart and resume.

  • Approval rules

Always or never allow a command, for one agent or all, one project or all. A deny beats an allow, and «Always» never approves a dangerous command such as rm -rf or push --force.

  • A circuit breaker

Repeated tool calls, error storms or token floods make it steer, then constrain, then stop the agent.

  • Sealed secrets and visitor mode

API keys and integration secrets are encrypted at rest by your operating system. Visitor mode hides terminals, messages, git and memory when someone can see your screen.

Coming soon

The next safety layer, planned before pixel.ceo Pro goes on sale.

  • «Stop all» Coming soon

One always-visible button halts every agent, trigger and schedule. One click resumes.

  • Daily cap per floor Coming soon

Measured in tokens or in a share of your plan; the floor pauses when it is reached.

  • Stuck-agent siren Coming soon

Catches failure streaks, unknown tools, polling loops and missions that stop moving — then tells you why.

  • Protected files Coming soon

.env, .git/, SSH keys and the secret store need your explicit approval, even at full autonomy.

FL 12 · Automations & integrations

Schedules, integrations and local models.

Put recurring work on the calendar, give orders from Slack, plug in MCP servers and run open models on your own hardware.

  • Scheduled missions

Run a mission at a fixed interval or on chosen weekdays and hours. Close the office at a time, in N minutes, when agents are idle or when missions are done.

  • Slack, webhooks and MCP

Orders from a Slack channel; several webhooks, each with its own secret and mode. MCP servers such as fetch, git, filesystem, time and context7 come on; GitHub, databases, e-mail and search are one switch away.

  • Local models and your keys

OpenCode, Crush, Pi and Qwen can talk to Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM on your machine. Bring your own keys for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter or Groq.

  • Chrome, the official way

Claude Code drives Chrome through its official extension; Codex uses an isolated browser or your own Chrome.

FL 15 · First steps

From download to first mission.

Six steps, a few minutes. The guide walks through each one with every setting explained.

  1. Install pixel.ceo

Windows installer (or the portable build) or the Linux AppImage. It updates itself from then on.

  2. Have one engine ready

Install and sign in to at least one CLI — Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity… pixel.ceo can install most missing CLIs for you.

  3. Open your first floor

Choose the language, name the project and point it at its local folder.

  4. Choose a coordinator

Pick the engine and model for Marco, who turns your briefs into work orders.

  5. Hire your first agent

Role, character, engine, project — in the folder or on its own worktree — and contract.

  6. Send a mission, sign it off

Write the brief, watch the floor, answer questions with A / D, review the report.

FL 16 · Questions

Asked in the boardroom.

Is pixel.ceo free?

Yes. Everything in 0.5 is free and the core stays free forever. Pro will add new features on top; it never takes away what is free. Your engines bill you directly, as they do today.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no pixel.ceo server. You open the app and hire.

Which engines can I hire?

Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Grok, Kimi Code, Qwen, OpenCode, Crush, Pi, Copilot, Cursor, MiniMax and Hermes — plus any terminal agent as a custom CLI. Kimi, Copilot and custom CLIs join as workers; the coordinator needs an engine that can read the team inbox.

Does pixel.ceo see my code or my prompts?

No. Telemetry is switched off in the build and has no toggle. The app's only request of its own is the update check; everything else goes where you point your engines and integrations.

Does it run a model itself?

No. Your engines do the work under your accounts. For open models, OpenCode, Crush, Pi and Qwen can use Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM on your machine.

Can an agent break my project?

You choose the autonomy of each floor, add approval rules, and the circuit breaker steps in on loops and error storms. With a worktree, an agent works on its own branch, away from yours.

Can I use my existing repositories?

Yes. Point a floor at any local folder. If it is a git repository, agents can work on their own worktrees.

Is there a Mac version?

Not today: pixel.ceo is available for Windows and Linux.

How do updates work?

The app checks at launch and every few hours, downloads in the background and installs when you restart. You can turn this off in Settings.

Who makes pixel.ceo?

Lex Laboratory, an independent studio. Write to hola@pixel.ceo.

Can I download without leaving my e-mail?

Yes. The installers are also in the board minutes, and right here: Windows · Linux AppImage.

FL 17 · Board minutes

What changed, in plain words.

v0.5.1

Latest

A security and stability release: your accounts, terminals and connections, better protected.

New

  • GPT-6.1 Sol. Available in Codex, with a reasoning level and Fast mode per agent. If your Codex is older than 0.159.0, the app warns you before you pick it.
  • CLI update guide. Each engine shows its installed and latest version. A guide gives you the exact command to update it in your terminal and detects damaged installs.
  • Quota from allowed sources. Claude's quota is read from its status line. MiniMax quota comes on by default and Gemini's stays.
  • Experimental legends and parodies. Those characters move to Experimental features and come off by default.

Security

  • Slack allow-list. Only the people you approve in Settings → Connections → Slack can give orders. Other messages wait for your approval in Triggers → Slack.
  • Webhooks and Slack on this machine only. The servers listen on 127.0.0.1 only: nobody on your local network can call them directly. If you called a webhook from another machine on your network, you now need a tunnel.
  • Sealed credentials. Slack and webhook secrets are stored encrypted with the system keychain and never reach the interface. Rotating a secret asks for confirmation.
  • Protected worktrees. Restarting or removing an agent no longer deletes a worktree with unintegrated work.

Stability

  • One writer per terminal. Only the app's queue writes to an agent's terminal, so text no longer gets mixed.
  • Git without locks. The Git and editor panels no longer take index.lock while an agent works.
  • Steadier Codex. The Codex quota check never runs while a Codex agent is alive.

Fixes

  • Polished screens. Notices and guides no longer clip buttons or text, the time of an old quota reading is always shown, and Arabic text is translated and in the right order.
  • Damaged engines in view. A damaged CLI no longer shows «Up to date» in Settings, and the installed version is kept when offline.
